I just recently saw Gary Clark Jr out in Tennessee on a small stage with maybe 20 people watching. By the end of his set, there were at least 150 people crowding in trying to catch a glimpse of what was happening. The Texas-born 26 year old bluesman was getting people excited about the blues again. It's not just blues though, and that was evident by his encore performance of 'Move On Up', a Curtis Mayfield funk masterpiece. He's successfully blended the blues styles of Lightnin' Hopkins and John Lee Hooker with funk and soul elements, creating a heavy blues experience with an underlying Hendrix influence that reels you in and makes you want more.
